Data Driven ATM: Going Digital!

On 8th March 2018 the BigData4ATM project team participated in the workshop "Data Driven ATM: Going Digital!", which took place during the World ATM Congress in Madrid. The workshop had two distinct sections. The objective of the first session was to provide the workshop participants with an overview of Big Data techniques currently being used in the ATM research domain. In addition to BigData4ATM, two other projects sponsored by the SESAR Exploratory Research programme, COPTRA and DART, presented their work. The second session ran a Panel that aimed to identify the areas of interest for key ATM actors, as well the Big Data technologies that need to be developed in the ATM domain. Amongst the panellists there were representatives from CANSO, IATA, Airbus and Boeing. The panel was moderated by CRIDA.

BigData4ATM Stakeholder Workshop

On 20th February 2018 BigData4ATM organised a Stakeholder Workshop at Nommon facilities in Madrid. The main results of the work developed by BigData4ATM were presented and discussed with the BigData4ATM Advisory Board and other external experts, with the aim of gathering feedback and recommendations for the last phase of the project and discuss the potential applicability of the project findings.

7th SESAR Innovation Days

The BigData4ATM project team participated in the 7th SESAR Innovation Days, which were hosted by the University of Belgrade, Serbia, from 28 to 30 November 2017. The SESAR Innovation Days are the main forum for dissemination of SESAR 2020 Exploratory Research results and for interaction with the wider ATM research community and industry representatives. The papers "Understanding Door-to-Door Travel Times from Opportunistically Collected Mobile Phone Records: A Case Study of Spanish Airports" (P. García, O.G. Cantú Ros, C. Ciruelos and R.Herranz) and "New Data Sources to Study Airport Competition" (R. Gallotti, M. Fuster and J.J. Ramasco) were presented by Pedro García (Nommon) and Riccardo Gallotti (IFISC).

BigData4ATM Intermediate Review

The BigData4ATM Mid Term Review was successfully held in Brussels on 13th June. The deliverables completed so far, the data analysis work currently ongoing and the specification of the BigData4ATM case studies were reviewed in detail, and the work plan for the second half of the project was discussed.

BigData4ATM at the World ATM Congress

On Thursday 9th March 2017 BigData4ATM will be presented at World ATM Congress in Madrid. Pedro García (Nommon) will present the project at the SESAR Theatre, during the session 'Exploring Future Solutions'. Based on the examples of different SESAR Exploratory Research projects, this session aims at showing how such projects can pave the way for future SESAR solutions.

6th SESAR Innovation Days

The BigData4ATM project team participated in the 6th SESAR Innovation Days, which were hosted by the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands, from 8 to 10 November 2016. The SESAR Innovation Days are the main forum for dissemination of SESAR 2020 Exploratory Research results and for interaction with the wider ATM research community and industry representatives. Our paper "Big Data Analytics for a Passenger-Centric Air Traffic Management System: A Case Study of Door-to-Door Intermodal Passenger Journey Inferred from Mobile Phone Data" (P. García, J.J. Ramasco, G. Andrienko, N. Adler, C. Ciruelos and R. Herranz) was presented by Pedro García (Nommon). We presented a poster summarising the research objectives, approach and expected results of the BigData4ATM project.

EuTravel Conference

Transport operators, travel service providers, technology providers, researchers and policy makers met at the EuTravel Conference in Barcelona to discuss advancements and challenges towards seamless door-to-door travel in Europe. The BigData4ATM Project Coordinator, Ricardo Herranz (Nommon), participated in this session presenting the project and reporting preliminary project results on the analysis of door-to-door mobility.

BigData4ATM Kick-off Meeting

The BigData4ATM kick-off meeting took place on 10th May 2016​ at the SJU facilities in Brussels. Representatives of the BigData4ATM partners and the SJU gathered to review in detail the project objetives and work plan, and discuss the scientific/technical approach of the different project activities.
